Professor Johnny

Professor Johnny started training jiu jitsu when he was 15 and now holds the rank of second degree black belt.

After earning his brown belt under Jeff Messina at Revolution Dojo, Johnny moved to California to train at Art of Jiu Jitsu—the world-renowned academy founded by Gui and Rafa Mendes. There, he immersed himself in a culture of discipline, precision, and technical excellence.

 

Under the direct guidance of the Mendes brothers, Johnny not only trained for several years, but was trusted to help teach both kids and adult classes at AOJ—an honor reserved for only the most dedicated and skilled practitioners.

At AOJ, Johnny didn’t just refine his technique—he learned an entire system of teaching, progression, and culture-building that has shaped the most successful jiu-jitsu athletes in the world. From the fundamentals to the most advanced details, he absorbed the Mendes brothers' philosophy and methodology firsthand.

When Johnny was promoted to black belt by Gui and Rafa, it wasn’t just a belt—it was the culmination of years of mentorship at the highest level of the sport.

Now, he brings that same world-class approach to Liberatus Jiu Jitsu in Fulshear, offering students of all ages the rare opportunity to train under someone who lived, learned, and taught inside the most elite jiu-jitsu environment in the world.

In addition to his accomplishments in jiu jitsu, Johnny is an Eagle Scout, graduated Cum Laude from the University of Houston, and is a proud father and husband.
